2023 PRD Community Giveback | Communication Consulting Virtual Roundtables + Optional In-person Meet-up

By Adrienne Wallace posted 06-19-2023 13:39

Who? DC-based nonprofit organizations/community partners addressing a variety of needs. This year, we will be working with three outstanding nonprofits from the DC area: Girls Rock! DC, Teaching for Change, and The DC Center for the LGBT Community.

What? PRD members will pair with the aforementioned nonprofit representatives in Washington, DC, to discuss communication challenges and/or areas of opportunity. Nonprofit representatives will provide information on their communication challenges and/or areas of opportunity and then team with a small group of PRD members according to their expertise during the communication consulting virtual roundtables (e.g., internal communication fundraising, social media strategies, volunteer recruitment, media relations). We have also invited nonprofit representatives to the conference site for informal meet-ups with us.

When?

  • Part 1: Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2-4 p.m. Eastern Time for Virtual Roundtable held on Zoom (note: a week prior to the start of the in-person AEJMC conference)

  • (Optional) Part 2: TBD during the conference in-person meet-and-greet happy hour or casual dinner with the nonprofit representatives. If you do not plan to attend the conference in person, you can still participate in Part 1 for the virtual roundtable.

Where?

  • Zoom video conference (with breakout rooms) for the communication consulting virtual roundtable

  • Optional, informal meet-and-greet happy hour or casual dinner during the in-person conference in DC

Why? PF&R's five pillars are: free expression, ethics, media criticism and accountability, diversity and inclusion, and public service. In the past three years, the PF&R committee has sought creative ways to move outside of the conference confines and has successfully hosted virtual community giveback programs to make an immediate impact in the host city/region by allowing PRD members to use their communication expertise to provide pro bono consulting services for pre-identified nonprofit organizations/community partners.

How do PRD members sign up? If you would like to participate, please complete the online registration (URL: https://forms.gle/axhsp4P9zgiDGuxf9) by Monday, July 10, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. Registrants will receive a confirmation email once they have been paired with an organization.

Can’t attend but want to contribute? Venmo donations to @PFandR-PRD and specify “2023 Giveback Day” (we are not providing tax receipts). All donations will go toward the three nonprofits: to cover meals for the nonprofit representatives at the meet-and-greet and as a general fund donation to each of the organizations.
