Support Opportunities for AEJMC PRD DEI Initiatives

By Adrienne Wallace posted 02-06-2023 17:28

Among our many goals for 2022-23, continuing to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across the Public Relations Division is chief among them. We are proud to continue our division’s work to honor our diversity statement:

The Public Relations Division champions every individual, inclusive of age, class, ethnicity, gender identity, nationality, neurodiversity, physical ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status. We are committed to advancing scholarship and teaching that eradicates social and racial injustice in order to foster a more equitable community for public relations scholars, students, and professionals.

Thanks to the generous support we received in 2021 from our members, anonymous contributors, university partners, and corporate sponsors, approximately $6,500 was raised to support our DEI-related paper awards, DEI keynote speaker series, and scholarship programs. We were also able to offer complimentary PRD / AEJMC membership to selected HBCU faculty members.

We would like to continue these initiatives and expand our support in 2023 with emphasis on advancing support for all ethnic and minority groups, and we invite you to consider making a gift to support our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee scholarships, awards, and support initiatives.

Even a small donation will make a huge difference!  For example, your donation can help us support the following initiatives:

  • A donation of $10 can support a graduate student of minority/emerging minority status to fund their preconference registration at the AEJMC Annual Conference.
  • A donation of $25 can support PRD’s Top Paper on Race & Ethnicity Award at the AEJMC Annual Conference.
  • A donation of $50 can support PRD’s Kaiser Grant Program to fund students of minority/emerging minority status travel to and registration for the annual AEJMC conference.
  • A donation of $100 can support PRD’s initiative to support diverse PR faculty and students from minority-serving institutions by funding travel to and registration for the annual AEJMC conference. The PRD is committed to building relationships with minority-serving institutions such as Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), among others, and fostering scholarships, mentoring programs, and more with students and faculty at these institutions.

Donating online is easy. Simply visit this link to donate: bit.ly/3wg3zb5. Select “Public Relations Division DEI Initiatives” in the Contribution Choice drop-down menu. All donations will be sent directly to the PR Division and earmarked for DEI initiatives.

We encourage schools, departments, and individuals to participate. All donors will be recognized for their contributions across PRD DEI programming and events.

Warmly,
Holly Overton, LaShonda Eaddy, and Chris Wilson (PRD Executive Officers)
