Position Summary:

The School of Journalism and Mass Media at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor of Media Writing and Content Creation, beginning August 2026.

The successful candidate will teach seven courses during the Fall and Spring semesters, equivalent to a 4/3 teaching load. The main area of teaching will be multiple sections of media writing and content creation at the undergraduate level. Other courses may cover topics including but not limited to strategic communication, social media, digital media, journalism or broadcasting depending on the candidate’s areas of expertise or professional experience. Participation in academic advising, service and outreach activities at the department and college/university level is expected.

Administrative Summary:

Contingency Description: This appointment is contingent on funding and/or work to support the position. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event of insufficient funding and/or work, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may: (1) change this Agreement by adjusting the employee’s FTE and annual salary throughout the contract year; or (2) terminate this Agreement and employee’s employment prior to the end of the term of appointment, upon 60 days written notice or such lesser amount of notice as the funding or sponsoring agency had to give to the University before decreasing or terminating funding for the employee’s position. Employee further acknowledges and agrees that in the event termination for insufficient funding becomes necessary, the notice provisions of Faculty Staff Handbook 3900B will not apply.

Minimum Education/Degree Required:

Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a mass media field or closely related field 
  • Five years experience in media writing, editing, producing or media content creation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Seven or more years of professional media writing, editing, producing or media content creation experience
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness at a college or university
  • Ability to teach media writing across multiple media professions including journalism, broadcasting, digital media, social media and strategic communication
  • Ability to teach multimedia content creation and storytelling using media equipment and software
