Visiting Professor of Mass Communication

Texas Wesleyan University, founded in 1890 in Fort Worth, is a United Methodist institution with a tradition of integrating the liberal arts and sciences with professional and career preparation at the undergraduate level and in selected graduate areas. Enrollment is over 3,100 students. The University’s School of Arts and Sciences is currently seeking applicants for a Visiting Professor of Mass Communication beginning August 2026 with possible conversion to tenure track.

Responsibilities include instruction of undergraduate students, with a normal teaching load of four courses (12 hours) per semester. Opportunities for summer teaching are sometimes available but are not guaranteed. Teaching occasional evening and weekend courses (on a rotating basis) is required, and ability to teach online courses is desirable. Additional duties include advising undergraduate students, conducting research with undergraduates, participating in curriculum, program assessment & development, and university service.

Candidates must hold a master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field (ABD or Ph.D. preferred). The specialization is open, but applicants should be able to teach core broadcast journalism courses—reporting, writing, producing, on-air performance, and multimedia storytelling—as well as Media Law and Ethics and International/Intercultural Communication. Teaching experience is required, with demonstrated potential for teaching excellence and scholarly research. Experience teaching the courses listed above is preferred.

Applications will be accepted until filled. To apply, send current curriculum vitae, cover letter, graduate-level transcripts, three references with names, addresses, and telephone numbers, and statements of personal teaching philosophy and research interests to: Mass Communication Search Committee, Human Resources, Texas Wesleyan University, 1201 Wesleyan Street, Fort Worth, TX 76105, or HR@txwes.edu.
