Assistant Professor of Sports Communication and Public Relations
Point Park University's School of Communication (SOC) is conducting a search for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication. The position begins in August 2026.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach sports communication and public relations courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Additional coursework may include teaching in the SOC's core curriculum for Bachelor of Arts programs. The successful candidate will also advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment and ability to serve the mission and values of SOC, including scholarship. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of success in working with diverse communities of clients, students, and colleagues.
Point Park's collective bargaining agreement requires faculty members to teach three graduate classes or four undergraduate classes per semester. There are opportunities for course releases for scholarly activity and service to the university.
Qualifications
The Assistant Professor of Communication should have a terminal degree, Ph.D. or MFA, in mass communication, public relations, or a related field. ABD applicants will be considered but the degree must be completed within two years of start date. Candidates need at least two years of professional work experience in sports communication or public relations. Experience in advertising, broadcasting or digital journalism is helpful but not required. Candidates will be required to advise undergraduate and graduate students and should have a successful track record of effective mentoring. Candidates need to be adept at teaching and working with diverse communities of students, faculty, and staff. Finally, candidates need to express ways the candidate's teaching and scholarship will complement the School of Communication and its mission.
