(Full-time Faculty Position) Strategic Communication
Northwestern University in Qatar invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Strategic Communication at the rank of assistant professor, to be appointed in the Journalism and Strategic Communication Program. We seek candidates with demonstrated research interests and teaching experience in new developments in the field of strategic communication, including AI, machine learning, and other emerging technologies in strategic communication; and strategic communication in international contexts. Ideal scholars will demonstrate an understanding of the skills needed in various strategic communication industries. Industry experience will be considered positively. Candidates with research or industry experience in the Global South, while maintaining the rigor of US-based R1 university standards of scholarship, will receive priority consideration.
In addition to a demonstrated research record commensurate with rank, or highly promising research trajectory for emerging candidates with a recent PhD, applicants should show competence in working with globally diverse communities, a strong commitment to excellence in inclusive teaching and mentoring, and dedication to institutional service and shared governance. Teaching expectations include two courses per semester, which may include core disciplinary courses, elective courses that speak to their research field, as well as contribution to NU-Q’s broader curricular needs. This latter could include Introduction to Strategic Communication, Corporative Storytelling, AI in Strategic Communication, or other courses qualifying for our university’s growing number of interdisciplinary minors, such as Strategic Communication, AI and Media, Media and Politics, Film and Design, Middle East Studies, and Africana Studies. There are also opportunities to collaborate with NU-Q’s Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, Artificial Intelligence and Media Lab, and Media Majlis Museum.
