About the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access, and Justice (DEIJ) Committee
Purpose:
The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access, and Justice (DEIJ) Committee serves as a leadership body committed to advancing equitable and inclusive practices across all areas of the association’s work. The committee supports the association’s mission to foster a diverse community of journalism and mass communication educators, researchers, and professionals who are dedicated to inclusive excellence. The DEIJ Committee works to create and sustain a culture that values difference, ensures equity in opportunity and access, and upholds principles of justice in journalism and mass communication education.
Role of Committee Members:
Members advise the Board of Directors on DEIJ-related policies, create and support educational programs and resources, assess the effectiveness of ongoing efforts, and promote awareness of systemic inequities in journalism and mass communication education. They collaborate with AEJMC divisions, interest groups, and commissions to embed DEIJ principles across teaching, research, and professional practice. The committee typically includes a chair and appointed members who represent diverse perspectives and experiences.
