Assistant Professor of Public Relations — Tenure Track

Appalachian State University’s Department of Communication invites applications for a tenure-track position in Public Relations at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2026. Our program seeks a scholar with an emerging research program and a strong commitment to teaching. A terminal degree in public relations, communication, or a related field is required for tenure-track appointment.

Recent professional experience in the public relations industry or applied digital communication is preferred.

Essential Duties include teaching three courses per semester, advising students, maintaining an active program of disciplinary research, and participating in departmental, university, and professional service.

The Department of Communication offers majors in advertising, communication studies, digital journalism, electronic media/broadcasting, and public relations. The department employs more than 40 full-time faculty members dedicated to teaching more than 1,000 communication majors.
