There are several ways to be involved with the IC Division.

  • Become a reviewer: The easiest way to get involved is to review papers submitted to the AEJMC mid-winter and the annual main conferences. The abstracts for mid-winter are short and do not take much time. Full papers for the annual paper competition are distributed in April with a month turn-around. Most years people who review for the division’s paper competition review 2-3 papers.
  • Submit proposal ideas for conference panels: Each year, we solicit panel ideas from our members in the three categories bellow:
    • Research panels which focus on original, innovative and trending research by a panel of experts on a topic related to international communication.
    • Teaching panels address curriculum development, course content and methods, leadership issues and teaching effectiveness measures.
    • Professional Freedom and Responsibility (PF&R) panels should focus on one or more of the following areas: freedom of expression; ethics; media criticism & accountability; racial, gender and cultural inclusiveness; or public service.
  • Share your syllabus: We welcome syllabi focused on any aspect of international communication and global journalism, including but not limited to syllabi that address international reporting practices, globalization, war and conflict reporting, journalism and human rights, and public diplomacy. Introductory and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate level are
    all welcome.
  • Become an officer for the division:  To become an officer in the division, you need to contact the current head of the division to see what spots would be available for the upcoming year. In addition, every year ICD carries on elections for two position, the vice-head and the secretary and our members are welcome to apply for both positions. Involvement as an officer varies a great deal depending on the position you hold. In general, officers help organize events at the upcoming conference, recruit people to help out with competitions (e.g., the paper competition), and end up reviewing papers for the division.
