Bio

Christopher (CJ) Calabrese, PhD, MPH, CHES is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Clemson University and a Faculty Scholar at the Clemson University School of Health Research. His research examines the communication effects and processes in which online technologies influence human behaviors. Utilizing both classic and emerging theoretical perspectives in health communication, CJ focuses on developing online network and social media interventions to promote preventative health behaviors and reduce health disparities. His research interests broadly center around new media, misinformation, social networks, and online technologies, with topics focusing on HIV prevention, gene editing, vaccination, harm reduction, and COVID-19.

CJ is an active member of the American Public Health Association, Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, International Communication Association, and National Communication Association. He currently serves as the Secretary for the Public Health Education and Health Promotion section at the American Public Health Association. Previously, he served as the Website Chair for the Communicating Science, Health, Environment and Risk Division at AEJMC.
