Welcome letter from the division head
Welcome to the Communication Technology (CTEC) Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC)! I am excited to lead the CTEC division for AY 2022–2023.
The CTEC division had another strong year in AY 2021-2022. The number of submitted papers for refereed research sessions for the AEJMC 2022 conference yet again exceeded the previous year. In addition, we collaborated with a variety of divisions and interest groups for panel sessions to discuss important topics including misinformation online, extremism on social media, and pros and cons of industry-academic partnerships on social media data collection. I want to thank CTEC division officers, members, and presenters and panelists for their contributions to a successful conference.
For many years, the CTEC division has been a leading division of the AEJMC in terms of both membership and conference paper submissions. Building on this, our division aims to further grow its membership and outreach in academia and industry. In this regard, CTEC officers for AY 2022-2023 have initiated a work plan for the AEJMC 2023 conference in Washington, D.C.
An important contribution of the CTEC division is facilitation of scholarship in digital and emerging media through the division’s journal, Journal of Communication Technology. CTEC division officers are working closely with the editorial team of Journal of Communication Technology to enhance the journal’s visibility and impact. I welcome CTEC members’ suggestions and input on this.
Finally, CTEC officers hope to deepen engagements with CTEC members by actively seeking member ideas on membership benefits, conference planning, and programs for faculty and graduate student members. Please consider sharing with our division your activities and accomplishments in research, teaching and service so they can be featured in CTEC communication channels.
