The MCS Division Service-Learning Grant program assists faculty by providing a $500 stipend to use in their service-learning courses. Two $500 service-learning awards will be presented at the MCSD awards luncheon at the annual conference. These grants are intended to offset a portion of the costs for working with communities, nonprofit clients, schools and governmental bodies in the classroom. Only those projects that encourage students to become involved in the community while at the same time utilizing/expanding their education and expertise will be considered.

GUIDELINES:

 Application materials should be sent as ONE PDF with the applicant’s name in the PDF title. The following should appear in the application packet in the order listed:

• A letter of application from the faculty member that includes a narrative about faculty member’s past experience with service-learning, an overview of the service-learning project, how the award funding would help his/her service-learning course, the course learning objectives, the intended outcomes for the service-learning client(s), how service-learning is implemented in the class, and basic information pertaining to proposed service-learning clients.
• Letter of recommendation from faculty member’s Director or Dean.
• Current curriculum vitae of the faculty member.

Applications for the Service-Learning Grant must be submitted to the MCS Division. All materials should be submitted electronically in PDF format to the Awards Chair, Anastasia Kononova, at kononova@msu.edu, by 11:59 pm EDT on April 30.

LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Applicants must be members of MCS who are teaching a service-learning course in the academic upcoming year. Winners of the Service-Learning Grant will be chosen by the Vice Head and Teaching Committee members. Award winners will be recognized at the Division business meeting at the national conference in Toronto. Winners will also be listed on the Division website.
